Hai Kun submarine begins 21st sea trial in Kaohsiung

The Hai Kun, Taiwan’s first domestically built submarine, departed Kaohsiung Port on September 21 for its 21st sea trial and 15th sub-surface test. This marks the vessel's first sea trial in nearly two months, following an extended period in dry dock for equipment calibration and integration of international components.

Military experts suggest that testing is entering its final stages. If current trials proceed safely and successfully, the submarine is expected to be officially delivered in October. While the vessel has previously undergone torpedo testing with Mk48 training torpedoes, experts note that full combat readiness will require additional months or even a year of integrated testing and crew training following the formal handover.
