Hai Phong Commune Starts Land Acquisition for $8.4 bn Lào Cai‑Hanoi‑Hai Phong Railway

On 1 August, officials in Kiến Minh commune, Hải Phòng city, held a meeting to inform residents about the land‑acquisition plan for the Lào Cai‑Hanoi‑Hai Phòng railway project. The plan will affect 1,179 households across the villages of Phong Cầu, Đức Phong and Sâm Linh, with more than 923,395 m² of land to be taken – about 805,373 m² of agricultural land and 118,022 m² of non‑agricultural land.

The railway, 390.9 km of main line plus a 27.9 km branch, will use standard gauge (1,435 mm) and pass through six provinces: Lào Cai, Phú Thọ, Hà Nội, Bắc Ninh, Hưng Yên and Hải Phòng. Total investment is estimated at 203,231 billion VND (around US$8.4 billion). Local chairman Phạm Tiến Thuật pledged to calculate compensation and support measures to protect residents’ rights and to keep the project on schedule, emphasizing its expected boost to regional economic and social development.
