Hai Phong Police warn of Mid-Autumn Festival cyber scams

The Hai Phong City Police Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Division has issued a warning regarding sophisticated cyber scams targeting citizens during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.

Criminals are reportedly using platforms such as Facebook, Zalo, and TikTok to create fraudulent accounts impersonating government agencies, child protection organizations, schools, or large corporations. These accounts use authentic logos and images to post enticing offers, such as free Mid-Autumn gifts, financial support for children, or gift vouchers.

Scammers direct victims to malicious links or QR codes to “complete gift profiles” or “verify information,” which are used to steal personal data including full names, citizen ID numbers, and bank account details. Once access is gained, criminals may request OTP codes or demand small upfront payments for “processing fees” or “shipping costs.” Additionally, some individuals are exploiting charity drives by using images of underprivileged children to solicit donations into personal bank accounts rather than legitimate charitable funds.
