City International Hospital investigates death after cosmetic surgery
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health is investigating the death of an Australian national, W. D. J., following cosmetic surgeries performed at City International Hospital.
According to medical records, the patient underwent a breast augmentation and lift on September 4, followed by liposuction and abdominal contouring on September 9. The patient had pre-existing risk factors, including hypertension, obesity, and sleep apnea requiring CPAP use. Following the second procedure, the patient experienced increasing pain, abdominal swelling, and difficulty breathing.
Medical examinations revealed a perforated sigmoid diverticulum and localized peritonitis, leading to emergency surgery on September 19. Despite intensive care efforts, including VV-ECMO intervention and transfer to Gia Dinh People's Hospital, the patient passed away on September 22. The Department of Health has ordered City International Hospital to convene a professional council to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the treatment process.
