China media and Hainan Free Trade Port report growth

A new industry report reveals that China’s television and online audiovisual sectors have both surpassed one billion users. By the end of 2025, television users exceeded one billion, while the online audiovisual user base reached 1.099 billion. Total revenues for the combined radio, television, and online audiovisual industries exceeded 1,546 billion yuan (approximately 230 billion dollars) in 2025, marking a 5.22 percent annual increase. Online audiovisual service providers accounted for 53.63 percent of these total revenues.

Separately, an inspection report presented to the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress highlights positive results from the implementation of the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) law. Since the law's adoption in June 2021, the port has focused on liberalizing trade and investment. As of December 2025, special customs operations expanded across the island, increasing the share of tariff items eligible for zero-duty treatment from 21 percent to 74 percent for qualifying imports.
