Hainan Province evacuates 31,000 people amid heavy rainfall

More than 31,000 people have been evacuated from high-risk areas in China's Hainan Province due to persistent heavy rainfall. As of Sunday evening, 31,564 individuals had been relocated as authorities monitored the situation.

Rainfall exceeded 300 millimetres across 24 townships in six cities and counties, including Wanning, Lingshui, and Qionghai, between Friday morning and Sunday afternoon. Changfeng Township in Wanning recorded the highest rainfall at 452.1 millimetres.

In response, Wanning activated a Level I emergency response, the highest level in China's four-tier system, while other areas like Qionghai and Lingshui operated under Level II responses. Local authorities have ordered school closures, closed several tourist attractions, and implemented traffic controls on affected roads. Fire and rescue teams, along with drainage equipment, have been deployed to key areas to mitigate flooding and geological disaster risks.
