Police in Hai Phòng, cooperating with the Environmental Crime Police and other Ministry of Public Security units, dismantled a large‑scale seafood smuggling network that moved illegal cargo across the Vietnam border without veterinary inspection. The operation was valued at roughly 1,000 billion dong and involved about 4,410 tonnes of crab, shrimp and other seafood, with an estimated market value of 400 billion dong.

The ring, led by seller Nguyen Van Tung and border facilitator Nguyen Thi Oanh, carried out around 630 smuggling trips from early 2025 until its discovery. Communication and coordination were conducted via the social‑media apps WeChat and Viber. Six suspects were formally charged, including the two leaders. Authorities seized five cars, two makeshift motorised boats, VND 2.7 billion in cash and about 30 tonnes of seafood worth roughly VND 3 billion. Investigators also identified several police officers who acted as protectors (“bảo kê”) for the operation.
