Hair donation initiatives support oncology patients in Costa Rica and Argentina
Community and health initiatives are providing support to oncology patients through hair donation programs for wig production.
In Palmares, Costa Rica, a solidarity campaign is organized for October 18 to collect hair donations for FUNDESO. The initiative aims to create wigs for individuals facing breast cancer, providing emotional support to help mitigate the impact on self-esteem caused by hair loss. Donors can have their hair cut on-site or bring pre-cut hair that meets specific requirements, such as a minimum length of 25 centimeters.
In Argentina, the Ministry of Public Health operates a Wig Production Bank that provides custom-made wigs free of charge to oncology patients. The program includes adaptation, maintenance, and follow-up services to assist patients during their treatment processes.
