Hair dryer safety: Risks of bathroom storage
Storing hair dryers in bathrooms poses significant electrical risks due to high humidity and water exposure. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns that a hair dryer remains a shock hazard if it falls into water while plugged in, even if the device is switched to the off position.
To mitigate these risks, safety guidelines recommend unplugging the device immediately after use rather than simply turning it off. Additionally, if a hair dryer must be kept in the bathroom, it should be stored in a dry, enclosed cabinet away from sinks, tubs, or shower areas to prevent accidental falls or water splashes.
