Hair loss patterns linked to seasonal cycles and lifestyle factors
Research and medical experts are highlighting various causes and patterns of hair loss. A study published in the journal Dermatology, which tracked 823 women over six years, indicates that hair loss follows a seasonal rhythm. The study noted a significant increase in shedding during August and September, linked to the telogen phase of the hair cycle.
Dermatologist Dominika Kačmár notes that hair loss is increasingly affecting younger generations. She identifies chronic stress, lack of sleep, drastic diets, and infections as potential triggers for telogen effluvium. Kačmár advises individuals to monitor trends, such as a thinning ponytail or a receding hairline, rather than counting individual hairs. She also recommends blood tests to check for iron deficiencies and warns against certain supplements that may contain excessive sugar or high doses of biotin.
