Hair loss trends and treatments: Understanding seasonal alopecia

Clínica Ibiza has addressed common misconceptions regarding increased hair loss during August, clarifying the distinction between seasonal physiological changes and permanent alopecia. While extreme heat does not cause androgenetic alopecia—which is driven by genetics and hormones—environmental factors in summer can degrade hair quality and accelerate temporary shedding.

Medical analysis suggests that the hair loss observed in late August is often an advanced manifestation of the seasonal shedding cycle. Hair that enters the resting phase in early summer typically detaches approximately three months later. Additionally, increased sweat and sebum production during hot months can lead to micro-inflammations in the hair follicle, such as seborrheic dermatitis, if hygiene is not maintained.

To combat hair loss, various specialized treatments are available, including shampoos, conditioners, and vitamin supplements. Notable products include Isdin Lambdapil, which aims to activate microcirculation; Rene Furterer Triphasic, which utilizes essential oils to strengthen hair; and Vida Shock Biological Capillary Tonic, designed to support the hair cycle through protein complexes.
