Hair protection tips for sea and sun exposure
Sunlight, high temperatures, wind and salty seawater can strip moisture from hair, causing dryness, frizz, split ends and loss of shine. The risk is higher for dyed, bleached, long or fine hair. To mitigate damage, experts advise rinsing hair with fresh water after swimming, using a gentle shampoo, and applying leave‑in conditioners or oils to seal moisture. Protective measures such as wearing a wide‑brimmed hat, using UV‑blocking sprays, and pre‑wetting hair with plain water before entering the sea reduce salt absorption. Avoiding harsh chemical treatments or excessive heat styling before a beach trip also helps. For pool swimmers, wearing a swim cap and washing hair promptly with a clarifying shampoo removes chlorine that can further dry strands. Regular deep‑conditioning masks and scalp exfoliation are recommended to keep hair resilient throughout the vacation.
