Haircare experts warn against relying solely on purple shampoo for gray hair

Haircare experts advise that using only purple shampoo is insufficient when gray hair develops yellow or greenish tones. These color shifts are often caused by external factors such as sun exposure, chlorine, water minerals, or product buildup.

Stylist David Lesur, training director at David Künzle salons, notes that greenish tints caused by chlorine or metals require deep cleansing with chelating products before any toning can be effective. Additionally, celebrity stylist Michael Dueñas warns against daily use of purple shampoo, as excessive application can dry out the hair or result in unintended violet or overly cool tones.
