HaiSea Marine completes 100th LNG carrier escort in Douglas Channel
HaiSea Marine has completed its 100th LNG carrier escort through the Douglas Channel. This milestone occurs more than a year after the company began guiding vessels to the LNG Canada marine terminal in Kitimat.
The operation involved the dual-fuel HaiSea Kermode alongside the fully electric vessels HaiSea Wamis, Wee’git, and Brave, which guided the Valencia Knutsen over 130 nautical miles to the terminal jetty.
HaiSea Marine operates as a partnership between the Haisla Nation and Seaspan ULC. The company employs mariners from local First Nations, including the Haisla, Gitga’at, and Gitxaala. Maureen Nyce, elected chief councillor of the Haisla Nation, noted that the partnership provides steady employment and career opportunities for Haisla members while maintaining a connection to their traditional waters.
