Morocco hosts 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations
The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will be staged in Morocco from 26 July to 16 August across five venues in Rabat and Casablanca. The tournament has been expanded to 16 teams and serves as the African qualifying route for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Morocco is hosting the competition for a third consecutive edition and hopes to win its first title.
The opening match pits the Moroccan women’s national team against Kenya at Moulay Al Hassan Stadium in Rabat on Sunday evening. Coach Jorge Vilda emphasised the home‑ground advantage and the ambition to secure both the continental crown and World‑Cup qualification.
Broadcast rights have been secured by CANAL+ for live coverage across Sub‑Saharan Africa, ensuring widespread viewership. In the opening game of the tournament, Algeria defeated Senegal 2‑0 at the Stade Olympique de Rabat, while the Atlas Lionesses look to build on their strong performances in previous editions.
