Haiti and Peru join international anti-crime and anti-corruption initiatives
Haiti has joined the Framework Agreement for information exchange between anti-corruption agencies and authorities. The decision was finalized during the seventh plenary meeting of the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network) held in Vienna, Austria. Represented by the Haiti Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC), the nation aims to facilitate the secure exchange of confidential intelligence to support the detection, investigation, and prosecution of corruption-related offenses, including the tracing and recovery of illicitly acquired assets.
In a separate regional development, Peru has joined the ‘Shield of the Americas,’ a coalition led by the United States to combat narcotics trafficking and organized crime. Announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the initiative involves coordinating judicial and police efforts among member nations. Peru, under the leadership of President Keiko Fujimori, joins other regional members such as Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, and El Salvador in synchronizing efforts to address transnational threats in the hemisphere.
