Haiti Education Ministry transforms 101 schools into teacher training centers
Haiti's Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) has ordered the progressive transformation of 101 public schools into Écoles Fondamentales d'Application et Centres d'Appui Pédagogique (EFACAP). This initiative brings the total number of these specialized centers across the country's ten departmental education directorates to 140.
Each new center is designed to support approximately 50 neighboring fundamental schools, providing localized pedagogical support and continuous training for teachers. The reform aims to bring professional development closer to classrooms rather than concentrating it in distant locations. Each EFACAP will be assigned two pedagogical advisors, subject to available budgetary resources.
Minister Vijonet Déméro announced the measure to improve teaching quality and student learning outcomes. The reform arrives as the Haitian education system faces significant challenges due to insecurity, population displacement, and budget constraints. The distribution of the new centers includes 17 in the Ouest department, 12 in the Nord, 11 in Artibonite, 11 in Nord-Est, and various others across the Grand-Anse, Nippes, Nord-Ouest, Sud, Sud-Est, and Centre departments.
