Haiti engages with Taiwan and France on diplomacy and elections
Diplomatic activities in Haiti have focused on strengthening international partnerships and preparing for future elections. During the 115th National Day of Taiwan, Ambassador Guillaume Cheng-hao Hu celebrated 70 years of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Haiti. He emphasized that a durable partnership must adapt to changing needs and resist various challenges, positioning Taiwan as a responsible democratic actor committed to peace in the Indo-Pacific region.
Separately, the French Ambassador to Haiti, Gautier Lekens, met with Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé to discuss security and the electoral process. France has called for candidates to meet high integrity standards to ensure free and democratic elections. The discussions also highlighted the importance of applying United Nations and European Union sanctions and noted that while security improvements have been observed in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, these gains remain fragile.
