Haiti inflation slows to 18.9% in June amid economic contraction

Haiti's annual inflation rate stood at 18.9% in June 2026, down from 21% in April, according to a monetary policy report from the Banque de la République d’Haïti (BRH). Core inflation was recorded at 17.3%. The central bank attributed this deceleration to lower petroleum product prices and active management of banking liquidity, occurring alongside a relatively stable exchange rate of 130.5279 gourdes per US dollar as of June 30, 2026.

Despite the slowing inflation, the Haitian economy continues to contract. The Economic Activity Conjunctural Index (ICAE) fell by 0.6% in the second quarter of 2026. For the first half of the year, economic contraction reached 0.8%. The BRH projects a total economic contraction between 1.5% and 1.9% for the full year of 2026.

The central bank identified several internal risks to economic activity, including insecurity, constraints on the movement of people and goods, and pressures on public finances. To address these challenges, the BRH intends to maintain a cautious monetary policy and active liquidity management to preserve price stability and the integrity of the financial system.
