Haiti loses US chargé d'affaires and French ambassador as they depart
After just over a year leading the U.S. diplomatic mission in Haiti, Henry Wooster announced his departure, delivering a farewell video that praised Haiti’s untapped potential while acknowledging ongoing hardships. He will assume the role of U.S. ambassador to Kenya.
At the same time, French diplomat Antoine Michon is ending a two‑year tenure as head of France’s representation in Haiti. In his final interview, Michon warned that no foreign partner can rebuild Haiti for its people, pointing to deep‑seated issues such as gang violence, entrenched corruption, and illicit networks that sustain the country’s crises.
