Haiti Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé heads to Saint Lucia for CARICOM summit

Haiti’s Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé travelled to Saint Lucia on Sunday to attend the CARICOM heads‑of‑state and government conference. The summit will focus on regional security, economic integration, climate‑resilience, sustainable development and governance, issues that Haiti says are critical amid its ongoing security, political and humanitarian crises.

The Haitian government says the mission also includes bilateral talks with other Caribbean leaders to deepen diplomatic ties and explore new partnerships for the country’s development. The visit comes after recent tensions between Haiti and CARICOM over the nation’s political transition, with the organization having facilitated the creation of Haiti’s presidential transition council.

Through its participation, Haiti aims to reinforce regional cooperation and promote stability, peace and prosperity for the Caribbean community.
