Haiti signs agreements to join CAF development bank

Haiti has signed two agreements with the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) to facilitate the country's integration as a shareholder member. The agreements were signed on August 17, 2026, at the National Palace.

The first agreement, signed by Foreign Minister Raina Forbin and CAF Executive Vice President Gianpiero Leoncini, establishes the legal framework regarding immunities, exemptions, and privileges for the institution and its officials. This framework allows CAF to conduct activities within Haiti and potentially establish a local representative office.

The second agreement, signed by Minister of Economy and Finance Serge Gabriel Collin, concerns Haiti's subscription of shares to become a member of the multilateral development bank. This move aims to expand Haiti's access to financing for economic and social development projects. While specific sectors have not been finalized, potential areas for support include infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and public services.
