Haiti advances security and regional integration at UN General Assembly

On the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly, Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé engaged in several high-level diplomatic efforts to address security, economic resilience, and regional integration.

To bolster the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), Bangladesh has confirmed the deployment of 1,600 police officers and engineers to Haiti between mid-October and late November 2026. Germany and the United Arab Emirates have pledged support for the logistics and transport of these personnel. Additionally, Mongolia continues its contribution to stabilization efforts, and an Ivorian battalion is expected to deploy to Haiti's Central Department in December 2026.

In terms of regional integration, Haiti signed the Multilateral Air Services Agreement (MASA) with CARICOM. This agreement aims to improve air connectivity, facilitate the movement of goods and people, and stimulate tourism and trade within the Caribbean.

Regarding economic development, Haitian officials advocated for increased climate resilience funding and economic transformation. Discussions focused on mobilizing resources to bridge the gap between environmental strategies and tangible investment results for small island developing states.
