Haiti supports OAS ministerial group to monitor Nicaragua

Haitian Foreign Minister Raina Forbin participated in the 31st Meeting of Consultation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington. The meeting focused on the political situation in Nicaragua.

Forbin reaffirmed Haiti’s commitment to the principles of the inter-American system, including democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and state sovereignty. She addressed concerns raised by inter-American human rights protection mechanisms regarding Nicaragua and advocated for constructive dialogue and adherence to international commitments.

Haiti supported the establishment of a Ministerial Follow-up Group on Nicaragua. This group is tasked with supporting dialogue efforts and evaluating progress by engaging with Nicaraguan authorities, various social and political sectors, civil society, and Nicaraguan communities abroad.
