Haiti unveils $5.9 billion electrification roadmap for 2032

Haiti has presented a comprehensive electrification plan and roadmap for the 2027–2032 period, estimated to cost between $5.7 billion and $5.9 billion. Presented by Public Works Minister Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis, the initiative aims to increase electricity access to 60% of the population by 2032.

The strategy focuses on 250,000 new connections, with 150,000 provided through decentralized solutions. The infrastructure plan includes the development of six regional grids and approximately 50 mini-grids designed to serve 100,000 households in an initial phase, supplemented by individual solar installations for an additional 227,000 homes.

To support this expansion, the government aims to ensure a reliable power capacity of 200 megawatts for the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area and 80 megawatts for the rest of the country. The plan also targets reducing technical and commercial losses to below 35% and training 500 sector technicians. Current ongoing projects include solar power plants in Caracol and Monfleury.
