Haitian cultural and development initiatives launch in Santo Domingo and Montreal

On October 17, 2026, two distinct Haitian-focused initiatives will launch in Santo Domingo and Montreal, coinciding with the anniversary of the assassination of Jean-Jacques Dessalines.

In Santo Domingo, the Association of Haitian Students at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (AEH-UASD) and Konbit will host the launch of “Taïno-L” by author and artist Roxane Ledan. The event, held at Maison Kreyol, aims to promote Haitian historical memory and cultural heritage, specifically exploring the roots of the Taíno people.

In Montreal, the organization Nouvo Ayiti will officially launch its activities at the Carlton Signature in Saint-Léonard. Led by entrepreneur Stephane Pierre Corneille, the organization seeks to mobilize the Haitian diaspora across 21 countries to support development in Haiti. Its strategic focus includes nine pillars: economy, agriculture, natural resources, technology, education, health, infrastructure, security, and the creative economy.
