Haitian legal professionals to undergo training in France for judicial reform

A delegation of 20 Haitian legal professionals, including lawyers and magistrates, will travel to France for specialized training to support the implementation of Haiti’s criminal justice reform.

During a ceremony held in Port-au-Prince, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé emphasized that the reform aims to modernize the judicial system, improve efficiency, and address issues such as prolonged detention and inadequate sanctions. The training will cover new legal procedures, updated definitions of offenses, and the evolving role of the public prosecutor.

Upon their return, the participants are expected to train other judicial actors to ensure the progressive and sustainable application of the new legal framework across Haiti’s 18 jurisdictions. The initiative was attended by officials including Justice Minister Patrick Pélissier and Sabine Boucher, president of the Criminal Reform Implementation Commission.
