Haitian lottery vendors threaten strike over new tax decree

Haitian lottery vendors, represented by the Groupement National des Tenanciers de Borlettes (GNTB), have announced plans to strike to protest a new tax decree issued by the Alix Didier Fils-Aimé government.

The decree, dated August 21, 2026, establishes a new taxation regime for vendors. The GNTB, supported by the Collectif des Avocats pour la Défense des Droits de l'Homme (CADDHO) and ADVOCATUS LAW FIRM, argues that the measure violates human rights and threatens the economic survival of local vendors. The groups are demanding that the government annul the decision to prevent further economic instability.
