Haitian national charged with murder of Walmart manager in Pennsylvania
Destino Jean-Louis, 23, has been charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, and weapon offenses following the fatal shooting of 45-year-old Latosha Ann Cooper. The incident occurred on October 21, 2026, outside a Walmart store in Cheltenham Township, Pennsylvania.
Prosecutors and investigators state that the shooting was motivated by a failed attempt to secure legal status through a fraudulent marriage. Jean-Louis and Cooper, who met while working at Walmart in 2024, entered into a marriage arrangement intended to help Jean-Louis obtain a green card. Federal authorities rejected the union after an interview determined it was not legitimate.
Jean-Louis originally entered the United States from Haiti in November 2023 via the CHNV parole program. His legal status was revoked by the Department of Homeland Security in June 2025, making him a visa overstay. He was arrested by federal marshals in Philadelphia on immigration charges before being transferred to local authorities for the homicide investigation.
