Haitian Standardization Bureau promotes economic development through quality standards

The Bureau Haïtien de Normalisation (BHN) convened state delegates, business leaders, and academics in Pétion-Ville to mark World Standardization Day. Under the theme, “Standardization, a true lever for economic development for Haiti,” the meeting focused on how technical standards can stimulate local manufacturing and increase the market performance of commercial companies.

The BHN, which operates under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, aims to use normative criteria to encourage innovation and meet consumer expectations. Minister James Monazard is reportedly working to support the rigor of local production and enhance the competitiveness of entrepreneurial structures through these technical requirements.

While the institution works to develop and promote standards, questions remain regarding the BHN's capacity to effectively enforce these regulations and sanction non-compliant businesses to ensure consumer protection.
