Haiti's Gang Suppression Force Targets Leader Manno in Port-au-Prince

The United Nations‑approved Gang Suppression Force (GSF), operating with Haitian police and a U.S.‑led "Task Force" overseen by entrepreneur Erik Prince, conducted a raid on the Village de Dieu neighbourhood of Port‑au‑Prince, seizing the residence of the gang leader known as “Manno”. The GSF posted that the move marks “the start of a gradual effort to degrade armed groups and restore conditions that allow Haitian authorities to guarantee public security.”

UN Integrated Office data indicate that in the first three months of 2024 at least 1,642 people were killed and 745 wounded, with security‑force actions accounting for 69 % of those casualties. Overall gang violence this year has resulted in 2,310 deaths, 1,106 injuries, displaced 1.4 million people and left roughly 5.8 million Haitians—about 52 % of the population—facing food insecurity.
