Hajduk Split secures Europa League second‑round spot with 3‑2 aggregate win over Žilina
Hajduk Split opened its Europa League campaign with a 2‑0 victory at Poljud, the goals coming from Brajković and Dalisson. In the return leg in Žilina, the Slovak side took the lead early, but Hajduk equalised through Roginić and later advanced when Dario Melnjak scored an own‑goal in injury time, giving the Croatians a 3‑2 aggregate success.
The win moves Hajduk into the second qualifying round where they will meet Cypriot club Pafos. Coach Gonzalo Garcia praised the team’s control of the first half and noted the need for better finishing in the final minutes. Approximately 1,500 Hajduk supporters travelled to Žilina, creating a vibrant atmosphere despite the defeat.
The victory marks Hajduk’s first away win in European competition in over 13 years and keeps their hopes alive for a deeper run in the tournament.
