Hajduk Split defeats Ajax 2-1 amid fan violence in Split

Hajduk Split secured a 2-1 victory against Ajax Amsterdam in their UEFA Conference League opening match at Stadion Poljud. Abdoulie Sanyang Bamba opened the scoring for Hajduk in the 37th minute, followed by a Davy Klaassen equaliser for Ajax in the 53rd minute. Marin Šotiček scored the winning goal for Hajduk in the 55th minute.

The match was briefly interrupted in the 75th minute due to pyrotechnics released by the Hajduk supporters group, Torcida. This incident caused the referee to send players to the dressing rooms for approximately ten minutes before play resumed.

Prior to the match, significant unrest occurred in the center of Split. On the night of October 14, approximately 150 members of Torcida attacked Ajax fans on the Riva. Police intervened using force to prevent a larger clash between hundreds of hooligans, resulting in 57 arrests. Among those detained were 19 Dutch nationals, some of whom were found in possession of knives and stones. Fabian Nagtzaam, leader of the Ajax fan association, called for UEFA to expel clubs where such recurring incidents take place.
