HAK-İŞ President reports 20% gender wage gap in Turkey
Mahmut Arslan, President of the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (HAK-İŞ), addressed the significance of International Equal Pay Day during a program organized by the HAK-İŞ Women's Committee. Arslan highlighted a 20 percent wage gap between men and women, noting that the gap among registered workers is 11.5 percent.
The event, titled ‘Informal Employment, Lack of Unionization = Wage Gap’, examined how informal labor and the absence of unions negatively affect wages, social security, and job security. Arslan emphasized the importance of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Turkey and called for the full implementation of all ratified ILO conventions to prevent arbitrary practices in the labor market.
Arslan also noted that HAK-İŞ intends to make September 18 a recurring and more comprehensive part of its annual agenda to advocate for wage equality and labor rights.
