Hakainde Hichilema re-elected as President of Zambia

Hakainde Hichilema has been re-elected as the President of Zambia. Representing the ruling United Party for National Development, Hichilema secured over 2.9 million valid votes, surpassing the 50 per cent threshold required to win in the first round without a runoff.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) announced the results in Lusaka, with Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis confirming the victory. The ECZ noted that while tallying in some constituencies remained incomplete, the remaining figures would not change the final outcome.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Hichilema on his victory via social media. Modi emphasized that India values its multifaceted partnership with Zambia and expressed a desire to further strengthen bilateral relations under Hichilema’s leadership.
