Turkey issues warnings to Greece amid Aegean tensions and naval exercises
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has issued a series of warnings to Greece, stating that Turkey's military strength is well known should Athens engage in 'reckless actions.' Speaking in an interview with NTV, Fidan noted that the Turkish Armed Forces and Coast Guard are currently in a highly sensitive state of readiness.
Fidan reiterated Turkey's long-standing position regarding the Aegean, asserting that Ankara does not accept the militarization of Greek islands that possess demilitarized status under international treaties. He linked these disputes to broader issues, such as the continental shelf, and suggested that Greek political rhetoric regarding Turkey is often driven by domestic electoral interests.
Simultaneously, Turkey is conducting the 'Denizkurdu I' (Sea Wolf I) naval exercise, a large-scale operation involving 100 ships and 14,000 personnel across the Black Sea, Sea of Marmara, Aegean, and Eastern Mediterranean. This military demonstration coincides with rising tensions in the region following recent maritime exercises involving Greece, Israel, and Egypt.
