Hakeem Jeffries distances himself from DSA policy agenda
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is facing internal pressure from the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. In recent discussions, Jeffries has distanced himself from the agenda of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), specifically rejecting proposals such as defunding the police, open borders, and the abolition of the Senate.
Regarding healthcare, Jeffries has stated he does not support ‘Medicare For All.’ While congressional records show he previously co-sponsored versions of the Medicare for All Act in 2019 and 2021, he was not among the cosponsors for the 2025 iteration of the bill. Jeffries has described a future Democratic House as a ‘broad caucus’ that would include progressives, New Democrats, and Blue Dogs.
Jeffries also recently drew criticism on social media following a post regarding holding ‘crooks accountable,’ which faced significant backlash from users online.
