House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries unveiled the party’s “Fighting for an Affordable America” agenda as part of a 100‑day rollout ahead of the 2024 midterm elections. The event in Pennsylvania’s 7th District, a Lehigh Valley steelworkers’ union hall, was attended by Governor Josh Shapiro and highlighted Democratic candidates, including retired firefighter Bob Brooks, who is challenging incumbent Republican Ryan Mackenzie.

Jeffries said the plan would restore health‑care protections, lower the cost of living and end U.S. involvement in the war in Iran. He framed the agenda as essential to winning back the House and delivering a Congress that “speaks up for everyday Americans” and checks what he called an “out‑of‑control president.” The rollout underscores the Democrats’ push to flip the chamber as midterms become a referendum on President Donald Trump’s policies.
