House Democrats target 46 seats to reclaim House majority

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) have expressed strong confidence in reclaiming the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives during the upcoming midterm elections. Jeffries has warned against complacency, emphasizing that the party must relentlessly communicate its focus on an “affordable America” to address rising costs of living, including housing, groceries, and healthcare.

The DCCC is expanding its campaign efforts by targeting 46 races through its “Red to Blue” program, including six new seats in districts previously won by Donald Trump. DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene noted that while Republicans maintain a significant fundraising advantage, Democratic momentum remains strong. The party aims to flip key swing districts in states such as Arizona, Iowa, New York, and Pennsylvania, while also attempting to win in deeper Republican territory.

If successful, Democrats intend to use the House as a check on the administration, focusing on issues such as healthcare costs and international stability. Jeffries, who is in line to become Speaker if the party wins, compared the current political landscape to the 2018 midterms, suggesting a similar potential for a significant sweep.
