Hakka music festivals and new song series launch in Taiwan
Cultural celebrations of Hakka music are taking place across Taiwan, featuring both traditional preservation and modern innovation. The Taiwan Hakka Mountain Song Troupe is launching its “Taiwan Hakka New Mountain Song” concert series. This project represents the fourth stage of the troupe's 36-year development, aiming to revitalize traditional folk songs by incorporating diverse linguistic tones, including Siyen, Hailu, Dabu, Raoping, and Zaoan.
Concerts are scheduled for October 2026 in Hualien, Taoyuan, Nantou, and Pingtung. The performances will feature new compositions, such as “Two Geese” for the Raoping dialect, and collaborations with artists like Huang Pei-shu. These events are free to the public.
Simultaneously, the 2026 Taoyuan Hakka Music Festival has announced its finalists for the Taoyuan Hakka Music Competition. The competition attracted 1,026 participants across categories including Hakka pop, traditional folk, and community ensembles. The festival will culminate in a major event on October 24 at the Taoyuan North District Hakka Cultural Center, featuring a diverse lineup including pop groups Ozone and FEniX, who are scheduled to perform in the Hakka language.
