HAL and Samtel open new defence avionics facility in Gurugram
Samtel HAL Display Systems Limited (SHDS), a joint venture between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Samtel Avionics, has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Gurugram, India. The facility, located in Udyog Vihar, Phase IV, is designed to advance the indigenisation of India’s defence avionics sector.
As India’s first public-private joint venture in defence avionics, SHDS has already successfully designed, qualified, and serially produced multifunction displays (MFD) for fighter aircraft, including the Su-30 MKI. The new plant will provide testing, quality assurance, design, and manufacturing capabilities for advanced display systems used in both airborne and ground applications.
HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi K stated that the facility is a milestone in strengthening indigenous capabilities and reducing import dependence. Puneet Kaura, Director of SHDS and MD & CEO of Samtel Avionics, noted that the facility is the result of nearly two decades of collaboration aimed at replacing previously import-dependent technologies with domestic solutions.
