Halal accessibility initiatives expand in Davao City and Macau

Efforts to expand Halal accessibility are gaining momentum in Davao City and Macau as regional entities seek to capture the growing Muslim travel and consumer markets.

In Davao City, Grab Philippines and the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos 11 (NCMF 11) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to improve the visibility of Halal-certified and Muslim-owned food establishments. The partnership introduces enhanced search and filtering features on the GrabFood platform to build trust and provide reliable information for Muslim consumers and travelers.

In Macau, the newly established Halal Industry Development Association is prioritizing hotel certification to address a gap in the city’s tourism infrastructure. While several local food and beverage manufacturers and restaurants have obtained certification, no hotels in Macau currently hold the designation. The association aims to leverage the projected growth of the Muslim travel market, which is estimated to reach 245 million travelers by 2030, by expanding Halal services from food and hospitality into sectors such as finance, logistics, and cosmetics.
