Halden shooting: Two dead and one injured in Norway hunting attack

A shooting in Halden, Norway, near the Swedish border, resulted in the deaths of a man in his 70s and his son in his 40s, while a third man in his 40s was seriously injured. The incident occurred on a Sunday morning around 7:30 AM at a farmstead east of Ørsjøen as a hunting party was gathering to distribute hunting posts.

A 29-year-old man, identified as Martin Braadland, was arrested at the scene after being subdued by witnesses. Although he was not a member of the hunting group, police believe there is a connection between the suspect and the group, suggesting the attack was motivated by a conflict rather than being a random act. The suspect has provided a written statement admitting guilt for the two killings and the attempted murder, and has consented to pretrial detention.

Police are conducting a forensic investigation and have ordered a preliminary forensic psychiatric evaluation of the suspect. The Halden municipality has established a crisis team to support those affected by the tragedy. Authorities have stated that the area is no longer considered dangerous, though some hunting activities in the vicinity were temporarily restricted to allow for the investigation.
