Halifax man accused of threatening U.S. consulate faces court delay

Legal proceedings against Ali Assakereh, a man accused of threatening to bomb the U.S. consulate in Halifax, have been delayed until October. Assakereh was scheduled to enter a plea and select a trial format, but his legal counsel requested additional time to review the case.

Assakereh was arrested in August after allegedly parking a vehicle containing a propane tank and flammable liquids near the consulate, an incident that required the evacuation of a large section of downtown Halifax. He faces charges of mischief and uttering threats, as well as a charge under the Criminal Code regarding threats against internationally protected persons. The Crown has stated it considers the latter charge to be terrorist activity.
