Halil Uzel reaches Bodrum after 83-day kayak journey
Halil Uzel, a 57-year-old retired aircraft bomb systems technician, has reached Bodrum after an 83-day kayaking journey from Istanbul's Poyrazköy. Traveling in his 5-meter kayak named ‘İnci’, Uzel crossed the Marmara and Aegean Seas to reach the Kumbahçe coast.
Uzel is undertaking a three-year project to become the first person to traverse the entire 8,333-kilometer Turkish coastline. His journey includes social responsibility components such as the ‘Vefa Rotası’ (Loyalty Route), where he honors individuals who have made significant contributions to sea, sports, art, and culture, and the ‘Kıyılar Halkındır’ (Coasts Belong to the People) initiative to raise awareness about coastal access.
Upon his arrival in Bodrum, Uzel was met by Bodrum Marine Museum Director Selen Cambazoğlu and received books as a gift from Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci. His next destination is Çökertme in Milas. Following the coastal leg, Uzel plans to navigate the Black Sea, Turkish islands, and eventually aim to become the first Turk to paddle across the Mediterranean.
