Halil Uzel, a 57-year-old retired air force officer and nature sports instructor, has reached Datça after 100 days of traveling by canoe from Istanbul. Using his canoe named ‘Inci’, Uzel has been covering an average of 30 kilometers per day since beginning his journey on June 4.

Uzel’s mission is to fulfill a dream he conceived 12 years ago: to traverse the entirety of Turkey’s coastlines and internal waters. He aims to complete a route of approximately 10,000 kilometers, which would include crossing various lakes, such as Lake Van, making it a first for the country. He also intends to use the journey to observe and report on the current state of Turkey’s coastlines and the level of maritime culture among its residents.

The current leg of his journey is expected to conclude in the Yayladağı district of Hatay around late November or December. Looking ahead, Uzel plans to undertake a Black Sea tour starting from Batum and moving toward Istanbul, with the goal of eventually exceeding 8,000 kilometers of coastal travel.
