Halkidiki implements forest access ban due to wildfire risk

Authorities in Halkidiki, Greece, have implemented strict movement restrictions in several forested areas due to an elevated risk of wildfires. The ban, ordered by Deputy Governor Yannis Koufidis, is effective from 8:00 AM on Sunday, August 16, until 8:00 AM on Monday, August 17.

The restrictions apply to specific zones within Kassandra and Sithonia, the area from Komica to Uranopolis, and the municipality of Poliggiros. During this period, pedestrians and vehicles are prohibited from entering designated forest zones.

Police have increased presence and will conduct continuous checks at forest road entrances to enforce the measure. Violators face an administrative fine of 300 euros. The only exceptions to the ban are members of volunteer organizations directly involved in fire protection and defense activities.
