Halkidiki implements movement ban in forest areas due to fire risk

Due to an increased risk of forest fires, authorities in Halkidiki, Greece, have implemented a ban on movement in specific forested and mountainous areas. The restriction is in effect from 08:00 to 20:00 on Sunday, August 23.

The ban, ordered by Deputy Governor Ioannis Koufidis, applies to certain zones within the municipalities of Kassandra, Sithonia, and Aristoteles. In Kassandra, restricted areas include Korifogami, the stretch from Kassandrino to Agia Paraskevi, Arapis, and Halkovouni. In Sithonia, the ban covers the Dragundeli ridge. In Aristoteles, it includes the area from Komica to Uranoupoli, as well as Stratoniki, Fisoka, and the area around the Stratoni shooting range.

Police, fire services, and forestry officials will conduct intensified patrols and checks, including recording vehicle license plates. Individuals or vehicles found in prohibited zones may be removed from the area and face an administrative fine of 300 euros. The measure aims to prevent wildfires caused by high temperatures and dry vegetation.
