Halkidiki implements movement bans due to forest fire risk

Strict bans on vehicle and pedestrian movement in certain forested areas of the Halkidiki peninsula in Greece have come into effect due to a high risk of forest fires. The restrictions apply daily from 08:00 to 20:00 in critical zones within the municipalities of Kassandra, Sithonia, and Aristotelis, where the fire danger index has reached category 3.

Authorities have ordered police and relevant services to immediately remove any persons or vehicles found in the prohibited zones. Violators face a fine of 300 euros. The fire risk is also critical in other parts of the country, including Attica and six other Greek regions, where a red alert has been issued. Extreme weather conditions, including temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius, strong winds, and prolonged drought, are contributing to the heightened danger.
