Halkidiki: Man arrested after fire caused by cutting wheel work

A 60-year-old man was arrested in the Skala area of Halkidiki following a fire that broke out at his business property. Investigators determined the blaze was caused by hot work involving a cutting wheel.

In a broader crackdown on fire-related offenses, Greek Fire Service investigators also conducted arrests in Paros, Trikala, and Rhodes. These incidents involved a vehicle fire in Paros, the burning of vegetation in Trikala, and hot work causing a fire in Rhodes.

Statistics from January 1 to September 13, 2026, show that 792 administrative fines totaling over 1.35 million euros have been issued. Of the 352 arrests made during this period, approximately 89.49% were due to negligence, while 10.51% were classified as intentional.
